Pamper yourself (Self-care month day 17)

I think that when most people think about self-care this is what first comes to mind. Pampering yourself, looking after yourself and making yourself feel special and beautiful and wonderful. And you should, every body should. So todays self-care task is to spend a while doing this.

Here are a few ideas of ways you can pamper yourself.Cont…

New Moon Rituals

Tonight Monday the 18th of May there is a new moon cycle. The new moon is the perfect time for release and renewal. I think we should take this opportunity to release some old stuff and work towards the new don’t you?

The new moon is believed to be the most powerful time to begin something new, a new routine, a new project, a new intention. It is believed that how you start the new moon cycle will set out how you spend the next month.

If there is something you have been wanting to start then do it today. Here are my intentions for the next moon cycle

  • To find time to meditate daily
  • To grow my business and reach more people
  • To be ahead/on time with all my uni work
  • To be calm and mindful in my actions
  • To treat myself with unconditional respect and love

So here are some ideas for how to set your intentions for the new moon cycle and harness the powerful cycle of renewal at this time

  1. Write down your intentions
  2. Read them out to the moon
  3. Bathe yourself in herbs and essential oils and visualise your energy being renewed
  4. Meditate and visualise what it is that you want to manifest over the next month
  5. Write down what it is that you are grateful for and would like to manifest more of
  6. Burn smudge stick, candles, incense to cleanse your home and yourself of negative energy that has built up
  7. Create a vision board I love this one. Or if you already have one-update it. Take down anything that no longer speaks to you and update it with new dreams, visions and inspirations.

Hope you enjoy the fresh start!

Peace & love

Evening routine

Following on from my post yesterday about creating a weekly routine I want to talk about creating an evening routine. If you work in the day or look after your family then evenings are sacred time. They are your important time for relaxing and regenerating. If you’re tired (I certainly am) then it’s easy to want to spend your evening in front of the TV. I understand that and I do that sometimes too. That’s fine now and then but what I want to suggest is that you also use this time for personal growth, hobbies, socialising, exercise, creating and self care.

What I do first is make a list of 5 or more tasks that I feel I don’t have enough time for, or areas of my life that are getting neglected. My list looks like this

  • Crafting/painting
  • Self care
  • Socialising
  • Quality time for my relationship with my husband
  • Exercise
  • Time spent in nature
  • Reading

Now I work out how to fit this things into my evenings. I choose one per day, it doesn’t have to be rigid, for example if the weather is good I will go for a walk and tick off some time spent in nature. Sometimes I can’t get out for a walk on my own if I am on my own with the kids and I’ll have to work that time into another part of my week. Here’s how a normal week night could work:

At 7:40pm both children are in bed and I have cleared up all the pots and toys from the day. If i can go out I would go straight out for swimming, or to a friends for a cup of tea, out for a meal with friends, or for a short walk down to the river. If I am at home I could get the paints out or make something from my Crafts To Do board on Pinterest. On a Thursday, as I have said before I like to make time to pamper myself a bit (see Pamper evening post). On Wednesdays I make time to watch a film. If Mr.H is around it gives us quality time together which is something we can top up at the weekend. Generally, any one of these activities normally lasts from half an hour to 2 hours, which then gives me time watch something on TV then to read a bit before I go to bed. I very rarely go to bed later than 10:30pm. I would stay up longer and do more if I could but I know that if I do stay up longer I will pay for it in tiredness the next day.

I think everyone knows how much sleep they need and how much they can fit in to an evening. You have to use your intuition to figure out whether you are trying to fit in too much or if you are too tired to do much one evening. My belief is that this time is precious and often overlooked as a time to be productive in your hobbies or socialising. Why not try it for a while and see if you can pull another few hours of activity out of your day? For any more help or advice on creating routines and fitting more into your life then email me at

DIY Pamper night

Everybody (I include men here) needs and deserves a weekly pamper night. Mine are usually on Thursdays. It is a necessary time that I keep sacred to refresh and rejuvenate myself. It also helps me to feel like myself again. Especially as a mother it is all too easy to lose some of your identity.

Here is what I like to include if I get time to do a full pamper night, a scaled down version is used when there is less time and that works by priority!

~Dry body brushing, actually I try to do this daily. It is super good for you.

~Wash hair, then do hair mask/face mask

~Shape, file, paint nails while masks do their work

~Rinse, bathe, use a sugar scrub, moisturise

~Remove unwanted hair! (However much you find necessary ;-))

~Finish off with a pedicure, including peppermint foot soak, foot scrub, foot mask, moisturise and file nails

There are loads of recipes for home made beauty treatments on Pinterest using ingredients that you may already have at home. I have some on my Beauty Pinterest board.

When I’m finished I start to feel human again. I make myself a herbal tea and relax for the rest of the evening watching something on Netflix.

What do you do to pamper yourself? Whatever it is that you like to do make sure that you make time for it regularly. You deserve it.
